Cooking to Heal Little Tummies

Authors: Jenna Roberts & Natalie Hagood

Author's Children - Doing great on the SCD!

The author’s of the book, “Cooking to Heal Little Tummies”, both reside in Birmingham, Alabama.  Jenna Roberts has a son who is four and Natalie Hagood has a daughter who is three.  Both children were diagnosed with autism before their second birthday.
The two mothers met through a therapist working with their children.  They became fast friends once they realized their children’s needs were very similar.  Weston suffered from chronic stomach cramps and diarrhea, while Chloe had constant yeast infections as well as constipation.  Both children saw the same specialist, who recommended the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. The two mothers began the diet with their children after reading “Breaking the Vicious Cycle” and studying the suggestions from Pecanbread.com.  They helped each other with cooking and shared new recipe ideas.  Within two weeks of being on the diet, Weston stopped having severe cramping and no longer had diarrhea.  Shortly after that, Chloe’s constipation disappeared and the yeast infections did not occur as often. Within two months, both children showed tremendous gains in the therapy sessions and verbal skills.  SCD did not cure their autism, but it did change their lives in a wonderful way.  Both children are making progress daily and are happy, healthy little angels!
